To give athletes positive experiences through a unique approach to running.

PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS
 
 
 
            Athletes are expected to attend practice everyday unless not at school due to illness. An absence is only excused for medical reasons and a written note signed by a parent/guardian must be given to a coach.
 
            1st unexcused absence = miss next meet
 
            2nd unexcused absence = miss next two meets
 
            3rd unexcused absence = conference with coach
 
 
 
 
 
PRACTICE TIMES AND LOCATION
 
 
          Unless otherwise noted the practice time is 3:00 PM until 5:15 PM.
The location of practice is changed this year and the team will practice at the
New Tahoma Junior High on the Landsburg Road.

SEASIDE INVITATIONAL @ Camp Rilea, Oregon
WA-18 WEST (optional to take 167 and 512 thru Puyallup to I-5), take the I-5 SO exit towards PORTLAND/ TACOMA (37.4 mi, or less from 512), Take US-101 NORTH exit 104 towards ABERDEEN/PORT ANGELES, (5.5 mi). Continue on WA-8 WEST towards ABERDEEN/MONTESANO (21 mi). Continue on US-12 WEST (10 mi). Continue towards JCT WA-107 MONTESANO/RAYMOND  (.3mi).  Turn Left on S MAIN ST, Continue on WA-107 (7.9 mi), Turn Left on US-101 (47.6 mi). Turn Left on WA-4 (4.8 mi).  Turn Right on WA-401 (12.1 mi). Turn Left on US-101 (4.3 mi). Turn Right on W MARINE DR (0.4 mi). Continue on US-26 EAST/US-101 SOUTH (0.3 mi), Continue on YOUNGS BAY BRG (0.8 mi), Continue on US-26 EAST/US-101 SOUTH  (?? Mi).  Camp Rilea is on right side of US-101, about 10 miles North of Seaside, enter thru main gate, at guard post.
Total distance from Maple Valley is approximately 174 miles.
 
SUNFAIR INVITATIONAL @ So 19th Ave & Tieton Dr, Yakima,  WA
On I-90 East take I-82 East/US-97 South (exit 110) towards Yakima (30.2 mi).  Take the N 1st St, US-12 West, (31A/B) exit toward Naches (0.5 mi),  Merge on US-12 West (0.4 mi), Take 16th Ave exit, Turn Left on N. 16th Ave. ( 1.9 mi).  Continue on S 16th Ave   (?? YAHOO maps says this ?)  (0.3 mi). Turn Right on Tieton Dr. (0.2 mi)

LETTER POLICY
 
 
To earn a varsity letter, athletes must earn a total of 30 points and finish the season in good standing. Varsity points are given for:
 
            Run in an invitational meet                     2 points
 
            Run varsity, in a SPSL meet                  4 points
 
            Run JV in a SPSL meet
And beat a varsity opponent’s
Time                                                     2 points
 
Run varsity, in a district meet                 10 points
 
Run in a state meet                                20 points
 
Previous years in program                     2 points/year
 
Attend summer camp                            5 points
 
Perfect attendance                                1 point/week
 
 
PARENT/COACH COMMUNICATION
 
 
COMMUNICATION YOU SHOULD EXPECT FROM THE COACHES
 
 
1.      Philosophy of the coach
2.      Expectations the coach has for your son/daughter
3.      Locations and times of practices and meets
4.      Team requirements and off-season training
5.      Procedure you should follow if your son/daughter is injured during participation
6.      Participant conduct code and consequences for not following these guidelines

COMMUNICATION COACHES EXPECT FROM PARENTS

IF YOU HAVE A CONCERN TO DISCUSS WITH A COACH, PLEASE FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE BELOW
 
 
1.      Your son/daughter should first talk with the coach
2.      Call to set up an appointment with the coach

3.      If the coach cannot be reached after a reasonable time, call Tony Davis Athletic Director at (425) 413-6302. He will arrange an appointment for you.
4.      Please do not approach the coaches before or after a meet or practice. Meeting at these times usually does not work well for any parties involved.
5.      If the meeting with the coach did not provide a satisfactory resolution.
a.       Set up an appointment with the Athletic Director to discuss the situation.
 
 
IMPORTANT FACTS TO KEEP IN MIND
 
 
1.      If an athlete visits a physician for an injury, he/she must bring a note from the doctor before being allowed to return to practice.
 
2.      Students who miss more than one class during a school day are not eligible to participate in that day’s practice or contest. Truancy will result in a suspension from the next scheduled contest.
 
3.      Use of tobacco, drugs and alcohol during the school year is a violation of Co-curricular Athletic Handbook rules and will result in an athletic suspension. Violations include actual use, possession, and/or sale, constructive possession as defined in the Athletic Handbook.
 
4.      Any athlete who is ejected from a contest will be suspended until after the next contest at the same level is completed.
 
5.      Athletes will be expected to maintain a 2.0 GPA and pass all classes to be eligible to compete in contests.

BY-LAWS
 
Mission Statement:
 
The Maple Valley Running Club serves to support school age students who participate as distant runners in a healthy and safe environment where all are valued and succeed in the greater Maple Valley Area.
 
II.                The Maple Valley Running Club is registered with the Secretary of the State of Washington as a charitable, non-profit organization.
 
III.             The Maple Valley running Club Federal…ID number is: 911708798
 
IV.            The election of officers shall include:
President
Vice-President
Secretary
Treasurer
          Officers shall be elected for a one-year term of office.
 
V.               The Board of Directors for the Maple Valley Running Club shall consist of the identified necessary chair persons:
Publicity
Fund Raisers
Information Specialist
Newsletter
Sunshine
 
VI.     The Running Club shall meet as needed for the purpose of organization and support of the student needs and activities. They shall meet at least once yearly for the purpose of the election of officers and report of financial status.
