Sept. 23, 2008 is a date which will live in infamy,
for it was the date we passed our final inspection and our journey back to #8 was officially over.

What started as a devastating loss turned into an opportunity for us to build a new house, one which  is 5 1/2 feet higher off the ground.  The chances of our house flooding again has been drastically reduced, confirmed by the reduction in our flood insurance from over $1800 per year to $400.  We look forward to the next flood when we can watch the creek overflow while enjoying margaritas on our  front porch.

Our journey lasted a total of 996 days, from the date of the flood to the date of our final inspection.   We had quite a trip with lots of new and unusual experiences along the way.  I don’t know why we thought we could build our own home, but Dean and I never wavered on our conviction that we could get the job done.

Did we learn much in the process?  You bet!  Would we do anything differently?  Probably.  But overall we are pleased with the outcome.  We were lucky, we got though it and now its time to move on to our next project.

We wish to thank those many people who have supported during this long transition between the flood through to completion of our new home.  We could not have done it without you!
