APEC protests in Sydney
2007
I attended the protests as an interested citizen wishing to document and photograph history rather than participate in the protests themselves. In 2007 everyone has a camera. Both protesters and police know that every moment is captured. Every nuance is recorded. Thousands of cameras are now part of every public gathering.
Numbers at today’s protests were just a few thousand. It was peaceful and was met with an overwhelming police presence. Protesters started with a rally at Sydney Town Hall and then proceeded from George Street into Park Street. Police blocked George, Pitt, Castlereagh and Elizabeth Streets south of Park. The NSW Police Public Order and Riot squad had an impressive array of equipment including one large new water cannon truck.
Photos of the protests today can be viewed on the gallery page.

Welcome to the fun of the APEC Protests
On September 8, 2007, APEC Leaders met at the Sydney Opera House. Protesters and the police gathered in the streets of Sydney. Very strange scenes today.
