bustling for Santa

Tonight we went to the State College Tree Lighting and the craziness begins...
I love Christmas.  Really, I do.  And Darrell really loves Christmas.  Like when we were looking for houses his first question was “where will the Christmas tree go?”  Really Darrell?  It is only up for 2, at most 3 weeks out of the year!  And, no, I will not put lights up all year round to get in the spirit.
Every year I vow it will be different.  I will spend less, buy less, do less and then Black Friday comes and the spirit of consumerism hits.  And then a friend tells me about her ideas for gifts and I see something SO CUTE at the store...AND I HAVE TO HAVE IT!
Tonight I saw it already.  Santa comes and kids line up randomly to sit on his lap and they wait and wait.  And pretty soon I am pushing Lauren up front.  “Get in that line”  “Go over there...you were here first”.  (Oh, did I say me?  I meant all the other parents were pushing and shoving....)  And the parents glare at each other and whisper and sigh and glare as “Have a Very Merry Christmas” rings out in the cold dark night.
But it is Jesus’ birthday and time to celebrate giving generously like God gave to us...generously.
