What a great vibey show in London last night! Sometimes London audiences are stiff or formal, but not last night’s audience who danced, sang along, clapped brilliantly, canoodled, shouted things and demanded more. There were a few problems - the construction next door kept triggering the fire alarm in the venue for an hour or so before the show, and I was worried that it would go off during the set. Which it didn’t, thank goodness.
The set started late because there were power problems in the kitchen, but they wanted to serve all the dinners before we the artists began our show which I appreciated. BTW I had intended to do “New York is A Woman” which had been shouted out as a request, but forgot until several hours later in the middle of the night, when I suddenly bolted upright thinking “Yikes! I forgot to play it!” I played something else instead. Anyway we only use the sampler on a few of the songs and that is one of the nice things about the trio is that we have the freedom to do what we want. I was told afterwards by many people that the sound was brilliant and crystal clear as we always worry about Dougie’s drums in a small space. Especially me since I stand so close to him onstage. So begins our week here in the UK.
Thanks so much for all the birthday wishes!! I am almost always on tour for my birthday and it is lots of fun reading all the thoughts and games and gifts that come forth. And thanks for Ruby’s birthday wishes too, she is tickled.
