Art Cloth is one-of-a-kind yardage (usually 2 to 5 yards), created with multiple processes of dye, paint, and embellishments. Complex Cloth is an approach to Art Cloth developed by one of my mentors, Jane Dunnewold, with an emphasis on the combination and layering of multiple processes to create cloth with dimension, depth and meaning. Much of my art cloth finds its way into my art quilts, altars and other work, but some pieces are designed and intended to be stand-alone works of art. Collectors of Art Cloth sometimes display the work much as they would a painting or wall hanging; others drape and display the work in informal ways -- or even incorporate it into their own wearable art. I work with clients to create commissioned art cloth for interiors and other projects. As a maker of art cloth, I am a member of the national organization Art Cloth Network.
Related work includes table linens (see those on the “Small Works” gallery page). Art Cloth prices start at $50 a yard, and most lengths are 2 to 3 yards in length.
