Dennis Kamakahi

With over 400 songs to his credit, Dennis Kamakahi is considered one of Hawai’i's most prolific Hawaiian folk music composers.  Dennis was awarded his first GRAMMY for Best Hawaiian Album in 2007 for his contribution on TREASURES OF HAWAIIAN SLACK KEY GUITAR and has recorded with Dancing Cat Productions working with New Age pianist, George Winston.  His musical background is in classical music composition and orchestration which has led to writing some of Hawai’i's most popular songs sung today and danced by Hula Halaus (schools) around the world.  Formerly a member of the legendary Hawaiian music group,  the "SONS OF HAWAII" from 1973 - 1995, Dennis, a songwriter, singer, and guitarist was a integral part of the historic Hawaiian music renaissance.   With over 20 albums in circulation, the most recent on his own record label DK Productions, Dennis continues to write, compose, and encourages others through song writing and slack key guitar workshops across the US, Japan and Canada.   As a solo performer, he was fortunate to be the first Hawaiian folk singer to perform the prestigious Wolftrap Barns and Amphitheater in Virginia and returned 6 times and be featured at the Kerrville Folk Music Festival in Texas.  Dennis has helped shape the Hawaiian music community for almost four decades sharing the love of music, song and the traditions of slack key to many a generation. www.DennisKamakahiProductions.com
