Ouch!

Wait! Racer down! This particular wiener dog had trouble navigating the racetrack -- a patch of prickly, unfriendly grass slowed him down. But the canine trooper was, well, a trooper so after kind words and coaxing from a loving owner, he continued the race. Good job!

A wiener here and a wiener there --- wieners everywhere! I must be at the 4th Annual Wiener Dog Races in Pensacola Saturday.
Though clouds hung low and over head, it didn’t rain and the only trouble the diminutive racers seem to have was with race-day jitters and some patches of prickly grass on the Pleasant Grove Motor Sport Track. (More on grass.)
“We come every year, “ said Sherry Nave of Pensacola. Her Angel, a 9-year-old dachshund, has finished first in races for the last three years. She continued her winning streak Saturday, but lost out on the big one. Her best buddy, Lady, a 2-year-old long hair dachshund, chose to watch the races while in the loving arms of her owner. “She doesn’t race, said Sherry.shapeimage_10_link_0
Proceeds from the races benefit the Florida Dachshund Rescue Inc. In the last three years, the event has raised over $5,000 for the group.
