Jim Harris & Dema Scott

Who We Are

We retired from 30 plus years of teaching and administration at CSU Dominguez Hill in Carson California. Jim was a professor of Economics and administrator at the University and Dema was in Student Affairs, the Student Development Office, for 26 years before she retired in 1997.

In 2005 while visiting friends in Placitas New Mexico, we impulsively bought a house, sold our townhouse in California and moved to Placitas to start a new life in New Mexico.

Most of the pictures on these pages were taken just since we made the switch to digital...the pre-digital pictures are stashed in a closet and will most likely never be seen again.

Travels

We have traveled extensively for the 23 years that we have known each other, including 22 Earthwatch expeditions www.earthwatch.org

Sometimes we travel separately, sometimes together. The last long trip we took together was a two month Summer Semester with the Semester at Sea Program: around the Pacific Rim from Vancouver to Seattle by way of Alaska, Russia, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Viet Nam, and Japan.

Before meeting each other, Dema spent a year wandering around Europe with her then 14 year old son, with extensive stays in Paris and in Mojacar on the coast of Spain.

In 1982, Jim traveled with a group of 20 (he was the oldest and the only American) in a reconditioned British military vehicle from London to Johannesburg....through Algeria, Tunisia,  Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Zaire, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa, on what was the adventure of a lifetime.
