So, where does this story begin?
It was a warm autumn night in 1994 in a tiny church hall in Manly on the northern beaches of Sydney. A small group of people gathered to sing and share stories. The red-haired woman from fresh water country had planned ten weeks of these salt water meetings. Ten weeks became twenty weeks and twenty weeks stretched into a year. It was evident to all that this small group had become a community. They sang songs from all over the world and new friends from distant lands brought their songs and stories too. One of these friends from the highlands of Scotland, brought a story about a sister who loved apple bobbing. Suddenly the community choir had a name – Let It Go Edith.
During the next ten years babies were born and elders died. Each, in turn, was sung in or out as the direction of their journey determined. The ‘winged ones’ had a farm in the fresh water country west of the blue divide. In the early days, the cycle of seasons was marked with boxes of cherries from the orchard. Soon, caravans of ‘Edith’s’ and the extended family sojourned to ‘Moorefield’ to learn new songs, record old ones, plant trees, ride Alchemy and Silver, bake together and drink good wine. Each year the table seemed to get longer – a mad hatter’s tea-party that said a resounding ‘yes’ to life, celebrating the harvest of being alive.
