WELCOME. WELCOME. WELCOME To Speaking As a Teacher. I chose the name because no matter what subject I discuss, I am first and always a mother and a teacher. This site is an opportunity TO PUT OUT MY WORK AS A TEACHER, AS AN ARTIST AND A PHOTOGRAPHER, AND AS THE WRITER AND PHILOSOPHER THAT I AM. I guarantee you will not be bored, and you may come away with a new awareness of what is happening to teachers, if it could happen to someone like the person who created this site... me!
 MY Email is : speakingasateacher@yahoo.com

MY THEME for this site, and my blog, which is linked at the top of this page -- as are all the pages-- IS OBSERVABLE REALITY. I hope that you will go to the links at the top of this page, because I have a lot to say about the chaotic first decade of the 21st century, about parenting, about kids today, about the sorry state of education today, AND I have a story to tell about the end of my teaching career that is nothing short of astonishing as you will discover when you read the pages “About Me,” “Speaking as a Teacher” and Rubber Room, which has links to the many sites where teachers tell their TRUE stories (read also A Tale from the RUBBER ROOM, on this site... link at the top of this page.) My site is different, because it will demonstrate the truth about me, and the tragedy for American education when quality teachers like me are destroyed. YOU can judge for yourself if my story and the charges of dreadful abuse, ring true.

I HOPE YOU WILL READ MY BLOG Observable Reality, where I tell it as I see it, about the world, our government, education, parenting, and the many things that I know about the way things really are. I chose the words ‘observable reality” as my theme because in today’s world of hype and spin, with a president who lies and misinforms the public, we the people need to depend on what we can observe with our own senses. My essays are from the heart. There is one on Cinderella, and another on The Dog Whisperer, but in essence, they address the truth about our society, and its impact on how we raise our children. The future IS ALL ABOUT today’s CHILDREN, is it not?

I AM AN AVID READER AND OFTEN POST ARTICLES, with my essays, THAT relate to the topic, and which ARE VERY IMPORTANT. In our busy lives, we sometimes miss the important happenings. I want to share those things I feel are important. The spin-doctors count on our ignorance of what is really happening.

I will eventually feature pages with my writings on pedagogy, including the philosophy behind the award-winning curriculum, which earned me a place in the New Standards Research, and The Educator of Excellence award from the New York State Council of English Teachers, not to mention my inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. If you are a teacher, I know you will find ideas that you can use, and methods that are PROVEN TO BE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL!
If you are in the education business, or a parent who is wondering what is happening to education, my site will be an eye-opener!

Another link, (EVENTUALLY) “Dear Mrs. Schwartz”, will lead to a page of the actual correspondence between my students and myself, about books, about learning and about the lives of twelve and thirteen year old New York children on the brink of entering the adult world. This letter-writing tool in a literacy curriculum that I created produced spectacular results. They are absolutely fascinating to everyone who has read them, and I cannot wait to put up that page.

ALSO, I hope that my photographs reveal the vision of an artist, which I brought to my classroom, where I taught art, integrated with English. and present a small example of my gifts. they show how I SEE THE REALITY IN FRONT OF MY EYES! Many of these photos will appear in my articles:
“Have Kayak Will Travel: Seniors on the Road & Water.”
