Ben spent the summer of 2004 in Dar es Salem organizing and implementing micro finance opportunities for businesses in the capital city of Tanzania. Upon returning to Harvard that Fall, he and his roommate Manav began a campaign to convince Harvard to divest its holdings in Petro China Oil. Petro China is one of the companies doing business in the Sudan and supports the government that is behind the Darfur genocide.
The following are articles about their Sudan divestment campaign that ultimately lead to Harvard’s divestment and eventually the divestment of Petro China from many other Universities’ and State governments’ holdings.
