It's a week and a half away, can you believe it?  The real dudes are coming  and we can't wait to have them.  DLX in general has been Subsect's number one company for years now so it's about time we got them here.  If you go to their site you'll see they're doing two demos....one in Chicago and one here in DES MOINES I hope everyone shows they're appreciation by coming out to skate south on the 25th to watch these guys rip.  AND on Saturday night we're having a best trick contest on the new stuff that Kever built where you can win one of these new Subsect/ Real collab decks.

 

Bottom line there's only one real skate shop in town that REAL SKATeBOARDs works with, no pun intended.

I know in the past I've updated stuff and it comes off as cocky, arrogant, over confident, whatever you want to call it...I mean saying that we're the only real skateshop in town knowing there actually are other places you can buy skateboards at can leave a bad taste in our competitors' mouths as well as their customers who shop with them.  But the bottom line is this: we are the only real skateshop in town, skater run, skater owned.  I mean if you were buying a car would you go to walgreens and get the "cheapest" one?  Fuck no you wouldn't.  So why do it when you're buying your skateboard?

Heath kevin and I were talking and decided that jeff should NOT be allowed to come to the demo.  He's been a ReAL thorn in our side as far as the demos go.  He claims that nobody cares and that we shouldn't waste our money on demos, but screw him right?  Anyway, he found out about the demo and now he's coming uninvited.  The problem is he's not allowed at Kever's because he hogs all of the cookies kristy makes us.  Is there anyway someone will let this guy stay at their house?

Where to start, man I really don't know.  It's 6:20 am in the airport Monday morning, the weekend as a whole was a huge success.  I mean it wasn't the biggest turn out ever...it fell on a Sunday which is a bigtime curveball for most out of towners but those of you who were motivated enough to hang out at the signing and got to sing happy birthday to big Ern were laughin' your asses off.  1st it wasn't his birthday, 2nd lisa made an amazing collab graphic cake just like the new shop deck collab, and 3rd we put a number "5" candle on the cake to signifi his height not a a candle signifying his age, classic, we love that little guy.  Next the demo, and oh what a demo it was.  All I can say about peter ramondetta is "I told you so.". How sick was he?  Countless tricks...regs, switch, he has it all.  Then the mildmannered sweet heart from minneapolis Davis torgenson was nothing but a young gun with fresh legs throwing today's latest and greatest new tricks out with ease.  Big ern brought his usual flair but threw in a kickflip front 50/50 on the handrail for good measure, and I love how he can do nose manual nollie flip out EVERY time! Dennis was supposed to fly home before the demo but he changed his flight when I pleaded with him at how much all of you guys would be bummed to not see him rip skatesouth apart, so he stayed and did.  Dennis feels more at home ripping in mayhem so his demo started when the demo ended ripping with all of you guys in the carnage.  Oh and did I mention the wizard yet?  Heath went on a filming trip to Atlanta years ago where he skated with grant Taylor for the first time and a kid they called the wizard, now known as justin brock.  He came home with tall tales of how gnarly this kid was with glasses. As all who attended the demo witnessed "wizard" may be a more appropriate name for him.  Justin KILLED it.  He was ripping so hard he got a kiss from jasper my color commentator who swears she only puts out for guys 26 an up.  Vertwall: frontside pivot fakie, tailblock, bside air, and a perfect blunt fakie to top it off.  Jumpers got crushed with trebombs, frontbigs, and frontbigheels.  Handrail??? Forget about it.  I think you get the picture.

 

Blue collar skate heroes came to YOUR shop and YOUR park and if YOU had half a brain you were in attendance and saw an AMAZING demo, you're welcome.

 

The night ended with ernie shirtless, peter saying "I want to come back" and justin saying "I'll fly myself out here anytime to do a demo for you guys."

nike.  who the f knew?  apparently everyone but us.  some weird "exotic" shoe was secretly released and kever had people from all over the country calling him today......ridiculous.  i mean my friend who works at the coolest store in the world, where you get yelled at for

oh, and the skatepark site has been approved, i'm working with the tbird foundation now to get us some money and some noteriety, so everyone get ready to fundraise.

 

ps just because we're on the berrics doesn't make us cool.  we're cool because REAL, BAKER, DWISH, GIRL, TOY MACHINE, ZERO, LANCE MOUNTAIN, all these dudes have been there not to mention MINDFIELD premiering there.....that's pretty ridiculous.  maybe that's why a bunch of you guys didn't show up for the REAL demo....don't worry we're slow learners but we finally figured it out, demos don't matter anymore to the greater des moines area.  i mean there's just soooooooooooooooooooooooo much happening on a sunday afternoon at 5:00 in beautiful des moines, iowa i'm sure you were entertained elsewhere.  so we won't be putting on another demo until the emerica video comes out....and here we are fighting to premiere it in des moines for some reason.  the line up will look like this:  LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK CITY, and des moines?  crazy.*

Well as you can see Andy Mac REALLY is taking to california like a fish to water.....I didn't know he was into og punk rock stuff but I guess he is.  That tat he got on his chest represents something very dear to me....so whoever can name the band that it's from first will get a free shop shirt......Christmas present #1 to you guys.  Christmas present #2 is that Subsect will be moving in the spring...well late spring anyway...to a new location in the east village!  It's a three story old brick building on walnut street that your favorite shop owner decided to pick up along the way, it's gonna be amazing!!!!!!  Christmas present #3 is.....well I'm not sure how much of a "present" it is but Heath will be in the shop for the next few days? weeks? months? years?  Who knows....Kever's basement sure is comfortable!

WE LOVE THIS GUY.......kristy had to read this out loud to ol' kever before he got to open his gift.  that last time we got him his iphone he got a tear in his eye so i was really hoping to get him breaking down with bliss but a smile is all we got....sorry, maybe next year.

 

jeez have we been dating kever now for two years?  no this is the third christmas!  the first one was the phone, the second one was the alien premier, and now this....damn.  the shop's not doing great, the great recession has finally reached iowa, and what do we do?  invest in our future that's what.  kevin a million thank you's wouldn't be enough.  the reason kristy is reading this out loud is because you are a master at downplaying your role in what you do.  if you read this you'd skip all things that i would want you to hear and just laugh at my cynical mean spirited jokes (which have been removed for your protection).  the thing i want you to know the most is that the shop would not or could not exist without YOU.  let me rephrase that, we wouldn't be doing the shop if it weren't for YOU.  sure we could probably get someone to run it or whatever but that would suck and definitely wouldn't want to do it.  you've done more than earned all of our respect, you've earned our friendship along the way as well.  and as you know, that can be a good thing but most of the time probably just get you in trouble so it's a good thing you guys live in iowa.  with the new building being bought we are obviously in this for the long hall, and YOU are included in that "we."

ohhhhhh livin' the high life....that's right kids here at subsect our dearest and beloved owner heath kircheap has decided to move out of the halfway house he was staying in and take residence in the back of the shop.  as you can see squatting in your own building is completely acceptable in the dead of an iowa winter.  no kitchen, no shower, who needs em?  this is man country!  "and if the squatting weren't enough proof of frugality, check out this baller's new ride....98' escort FULLY LOADED punk!  got some 13's on it, just screamin' "watch me roll bitch."
