STUDIO GRIFFOTO is located in southern California north and west of Los Angeles a few miles from the Pacific Coast...a location with many photographic possibilities. It follows that a significant number of the images on my site are from this local area. Over the years, I have also captured images from other areas in California, the western U.S. and Europe. A representative sample of my work is presented on my site for your consideration.

The interplay of color, design, and the magical effects of light and reflections have always fascinated me. I discovered photography more than 30 years ago and have been shooting ever since, simply because I enjoy the process and the results are good often enough to keep me hooked.
Over the years, I studied different photographic styles, took a couple of classes from Lee Rice and learned from studying the work of those I admired most, Alfred Stieglitz, Ansel Adams, Ernest Haas and Eliot Porter. My work evolved with time and the influence of my friend, Tom Howell, who unselfishly shared his knowledge as an accomplished artist and gifted photographer, and who constantly challenged me to improve. Many creative insights have come from our dueling slideshows sustained with Cabernet or Chianti after trips to Yosemite, Point Lobos, Bodie, Morro Bay, Death Valley, the Wine Country, Florence, Venice and Rome.
I have photographed many different subjects during the past three decades with a single objective...a desire to capture the interplay of color and light in varied subjects to create unique images of beauty. Sorry, Ansel, I zoned out. Ernie and Eliot won that battle. From the early days working in darkrooms smelling of acetic acid to the present using the immaculate technology of ink-jet printers, my goal of making artful images has remained unchanged.
My website represents a partial gallery of images I have created from photographs taken during the past three decades...images that I like for their own sake, impressions of beauty generated by the hand of God, or man, or circumstance. I hope you find my work interesting and stimulating.
