GALSCO is Steamboat Springs, Colorado’s repertory theatre company producing shows ranging from the family to the fantastical. Originally started in 1971, the current incarnation of GALSCO began in 2005 with the musical comment on love and marriage, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. In 2006, we returned to the musical genre with a story of personal growth and redemption in The Spitfire Grill, based upon the movie of the same name. In 2007, the Company produced the touching tale of women and families in Eleemosynary.

In the summer of 2008 the company began working outdoors in Spring Creek Park to create the Piknik Theatre Festival, producing three shows in repertory during the month of July. Performances include a classic Shakespearean comedy, a musical, and an all ages show. All productions feature a short hike to a picturesque, beautiful, and non-traditional setting; your own picnic basket and blanket; and professional quality theatrical performance. Local actors as well as graduates and students of the New Zealand finest dramatic conservatories join forces to take theatre out of the box, build international cultural exchange, and enhance the level of the performing arts in the Steamboat Springs community.

Preparations are underway for the landmark Season Five in 2012 with a new location for most of our productions: the beautiful and scenic Yampa River Botanic Park will be our home for a new summer of classic and contemporary outdoor theatre. Our children’s theatre workshops will continue to offer an introduction to both theatre and New Zealand indigenous culture. The two, weeklong workshops for kids ages 8-12 begin July 9 during the mornings of the Festival and registration is available through the Steamboat Arts Council’s Young at Art program. To remind yourself of the great shows gone by and whet your appetite for others on the way in just a few short months, visit www.steamboattheatre.com!
