Students are full of energy these days, and it’s not just a sign of spring.  Cabot is tackling a comprehensive, community-wide project exploring the theme of “energy.”  Activities explore renewable energy technology, conservation, sustainability, and investigate energy on a local level. We hope this work will stimulate discussions about how rural towns like Cabot can evolve to survive and prosper in a climate of energy uncertainty.

One of the goals of the project is for students (Pre K-12) to learn about the basics of energy and explore the concept from multiple vantage points.  Classes will develop individual or team projects such as building solar cookers, solar cars, growing food for our “localvore” lunch, or illustrating the story of Vermont’s electrification.

May 15th is the culmination of our school/community-wide project.  We will celebrate with a day-long exposition of student projects, a green home tour, power plant field trip, art workshops, energy speakers, a clean car show, an energy film festival, “localvore” lunch, woodchip plant celebration, raffle, and solar car race!

We simply must balance our demand for energy with our rapidly shrinking resources. By acting now we can control our future instead of letting the future control us.
