April 8 • 7 pm Marty Flannigan & Wayne Fisher a The Solar Home

Energy efficiency specialist and author of Home Energy Diet, Paul Scheckel will present everyday strategies for reducing home energy consumption. Scheckel encourages consumers to take control of their personal energy use and manage costs so they can save money, live more comfortably, and help the environment. Copies of his useful book will be available for sale.
April 29 • 7 pm Carl Etnier and Lee Blackwell a Peak Oil
Cabot Public Library
Peak oil refers to the point where the world reaches its maximum rate of petroleum production. How close are we to peak oil? How might this impact future prices in rural communities, and how can we adapt to this shifting landscape? Carl Etnier, director of Peak Oil Awareness, and Lee Blackwell, a local organic farmer, will also provide information about how to strengthen the local economy in a time of energy constraints.
May 6 • 7 pm Danny Sagan a Green Home Design
Cabot School Library
A design/builder with Terra Firma, Inc., which he co-founded, Danny Sagan specializes in energy-efficient buildings and the sustainable use of building materials. He helped develop the “Vermont Builds Greener” (VBG) rating system for home energy efficiency. Sagan serves as an assistant professor at Norwich University teaching architecture and “design-build” and as an instructor at Yestermorrow Design/Build School. He has also taught at Stanford and Yale.
May 8 • 11 am Bill McKibben a Energy in Vermont

World-renowned environmental activist and author of The End of Nature, Fight Global Warming Now, and Deep Economy, Bill McKibben will present a keynote address to Cabot students, staff, and community members. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Atlantic Monthly, Rolling Stone, National Geographic, and Outside.
May 8 • 7 pm David Blittersdorf a Residential Wind Power

Co-founder of NRG Systems, a global leader in wind measurement technology, and Earth Turbines, Vermont’s only manufacturer of wind turbines, David Blittersdorf will speak on issues regarding wind energy, financing, tax incentives, the controversy regarding aesthetics, and the potential for wind energy in Vermont.
