Reproducing the uniform of the Advance Guard
Recent research on the early uniform of Company “I” of the Anderson Zouaves has given us the confidence to attempt a reconstruction.
With the assistance of the Smithsonian Institute and Chris Sullivan in the United States we have reached a stage where we now want to begin manufacturing accurate reproductions of the early war zouave uniform of company “I” of the 62d New York State Volunteers. We will begin by producing the waistcoat which will be made with the correct materials and will include reproductions of inspectors’ stamps.
We are hoping to make ten complete uniforms, however, we would like to get a committment from interested parties to purchase the uniforms. As an incentive the uniform will be sold at just about cost price. We are not interested in making a profit, but are just interested in getting a large number of authentic looking early war Anderson Zouave uniforms made and worn at events.
The first part of the uniform we intend to produce, the waistcoat, will be priced at only A$20 for those who preorder. The jacket and the trousers will be similarly priced though we have not yet costed the materials.
If you are interested please contact us through the email on the home page. For those wishing to make their own we will soon be posting patterns, specifications and suppliers on this page.
