Captain George H. Eddy
* George H. Eddy appears on the muster roll of October 15, 1861 as First Lieutenant so his promotion from Sergeant must have been sometime prior to this date, possibly on September 19 which was when the previous First Lieutenant of company “C”, William D. Ross, was discharged. William D. Ross was killed on October 25, 1861 when he was struck by a train while wandering on the rails in Washington. It is possible that Ross’ death was suicide.
** Official records do not include a promotion to captain for Eddy, however a newspaper report of July 8, 1864 refers to him as a Captain. It is not clear from the article which company he is supposed to have commanded however, there appears to be no record of a captain for company “A” after William Ackerman mustered out on June 29, 1864.
