A wee bit of Scottish history .. about Stracathro
The cottages are situated in the grounds of Stracathro Mansion House, built in 1827, a neo-classical,
Palladian, architectural gem designed by the architect, Archibald Simpson, creator of many well
known buildings in the city of Aberdeen. Aberdeen University (Marischal College), Aberdeen Music Hall
to name but two. A contemporary of William Playfair. There is an Arboretum in the grounds which may
be available for residents use at certain times of the year.

Strickathrow is supposed to have derived its name (anciently Strath-Cath-Ra, and signifying in the
Celtic language "the Valley in which the King fought") from a battle that took place here in 1130, between
the army of David I., King of Scotland, and the forces of Angus, Earl of Moray. (source British History)

The grounds are home to lots of indigenous wildlife, red squirrels, hedgehogs, toads, deer and a
variety of birds from wee jenny wrens to herons ... and our resident peafowl.
