This church is considered an important bat colony and Stormflex is recognized as being a bat friendly system. We worked in conjunction with Snowdonia National Park and The Vincent Wildlife Trust to ensure we caused minimal disturbance to the bats which roost all year round in the loft space. As a precaution, we quickly patched the slate roof on a nearby shed first to create a secondary roost if the bats found the work on the main church too intrusive. We also replaced and secured the existing soffit slates on the gable and and created a gap of 25mm for the bats. The slate soffits surrounding the rest of the building were secured but we left 4-5 slates out leaving spaces for the nesting crows. There where also fixed the leaking gutter joints and blocked downpipes.
I will try and get some footage of the bats when they return next spring, and the next door neighbour has bats roosting in a vacant part of his building through the winter and he is going to capture some video footage which I can hopefully get hold of......

Some storm damage to the verge slates and missing soffit slates
This “shed” was quickly patched and stormflexed where necessary in half a day
The verge and loose slates under the eaves.
Completed soffit repair above the top perlins with bat friendly gaps of approx 25mm
The shed after the extensive patch work. The left hand verge was stormflexed because it was really loose
The roof finished and myself finishing securing the soffit slates
