Ysgoldy- Dolgellau- a good test for the system

This old school house (Hen Ysgoldy in Welsh!) in Dolgellau was in a terrible condition- it worked out at c. £35 a square metre. Parts of the roof were in such a decayed  state that the slates slipped off the roof with the slightest of touches. Also, above the left hand window in the picture above we had to replace a very large and very rotten wall plate, which doubled up as the top of the window frame. You can see the new timber in the left hand side of the second picture. Also , I’ve included a e-mail sent to Jim after the job’s completion.

“Hi Jim,

Many thanks for the message and attached Invoice which we believe is very fair for a thoroughly good job...............we recommend your service and will have no hesitation on giving you a call in the event of any future need at Ysgoldy or elsewhere.

Best wishes

Mike Field”

This picture doesn’t do justice to the terrible condition of the original roof
This picture does do justice to the improvement gained by the Stormflex system.
The original left side of the back roof
The original right side of the back roof. You can see the condition of the valley.
The back face after completion.
Way to hot in summer on a roof! Each one of the workers drinks 3 litres a day when its at its hottest
This picture shows the old, traditionally laid “swept” valley which concerned the customer, although we think it will not leak after checking for water leaking when it was raining
The valley rafter was rotten through, and the rafter surrounding it where also rotten. this is a low res. mobile phone picture
After doing the necessary timber repairs, we re-inforced this area with plywood
nearing completion of valley repairs
The finished valley with new apron and soakers on the chimney
This picture shows the workmanship on the valley. Straight as an arrow!
