This house in Snowdonia National Park was rapidly approaching a very serious state. The nails were very weak causing slate slippage all over the roof. At the rear of the house, a leaking valley had been causing the wood to rot for sometime, leaving no option apart from extensive repairs. Care was given to restoring the slate banding in the roof and new lead was replaced with new code 5. On the porch, a lead apron was fitted and cemented into place. The main ridge on the front and back had new ridge tiles, but we kept the old slate roll and wings on the front dormer.

The back of the roof needed extensive work done to restore the slate ‘bands’ running along the roof and the ridge needed new ridge tiles.
This shows how bad the rot was underneath the lead. New rafters were needed and valley board, and a pile of replacement slates!
The completed woodwork. Now it’s ready to slate up, and due to the slate size this took two long days!
Robi slating up the verge after replacing the verge rafter, fascia board and a segment of the wall plate.
The front of the house looking excellent after completion because of new valleys, repaired porch, new ridge tiles and the Stormflex system applied to the whole roof.
Notice the repair work done to the slate ‘bands’ along the roof. The new timber is to be painted by the customer.

Again, notice how tidy the slate work looks. Extensive work had to be carried out on the slates joining the valley.
The finished valley.
