Joel Slaven, show producer and head trainer at Pets Ahoy! (show that I perform at Sea World), had us over for a cook out in his gorgeous house.

At his property, Joel Slaven raises some of the animals that eventually will perform at the the Sea World/Busch Gardens shows. He is also in the process of developing an educational program with exotics. Among many of these animals you’ll find anything from Siberian Lynx to Kangaroos.

Click below for more pictures of me with the cast of Pets Ahoy!, Joel Slaven and some of our "future stars"! And don’t forget to leave me a comment on my blog!!! (always make me happy to hear from y’all here!)

No need to say we had a blast!!! THANK YOU JOEL, MARTHA AND SHANNON!!! YOU ROCK!

My surgery

As many of you know, I had a major surgery done this past thursday for the removal of an unidentified (and very large) pelvic mass that showed up in one of my c.t. scans couple months ago.
I’m glad to report that despite all the risks, the surgery was very successful, surgeons and specialists that looked at the images feared that this mass consisted of mucus that could have bursted during the surgery and cause me some serious chronic problems in the future. Fortunately, that was not the case and the cyst was actually harder. Yes, there was some fluid inside of it, which makes the specialists believe that it is probably NOT a cancerous tumor but perhaps something I was born with.
The unidentified mass has been sent to biopsy and I won’t know the results for another week.
I’m back home now with my family that I missed SO MUCH in the hospital. I’m still in a great deal of pain, the incision was about 11” long (opening my whole lower abs), and I have a “pain pump” attached to the region to alleviate the pain. Moving around is a HUGE challenge so far, you never really realize how much you use your stomach muscles for everything: laying down, turning, sitting down... and even eating it’s not a very pleasant experience.
I want to take this opportunity to say “thank you” to everyone who has sent good thoughts and prayers over my way. I look forward to a speedy recovery and even better news from the doctors once the biopsy is complete. Hope to see you all in the next dog show.

with love,
Luiz.

PS- Sorry if this is not the best written BLOG ever, still having trouble put my thoughts together.

I designed this ad for Zen (Ch.Crestar’s Frozedn In Time HL), look for it for in the upcoming issue of “Our Cresteds” magazine.
If you haven’t subscribed to the magazine yet, please contact Susan Roeder from Bourbon Street Chinese Cresteds. It’s a beautiful and insightful publication (and very cheap too!)

Another exciting thing that happened to us this week, was the arrival of a VERY special little guy: Am, Can Ch. Expression Lasting Impression "Eli". As some of you know he held the number one spot in the country for 2 years, and it's still the top winning powderpuff in the history of the breed. He's retired from the showring now, and as many well deserving retirees, he's living down in Florida now to play some agility, meet girls, and have fun!
I want to take the opportunity to say THANK YOU to my dearest friend, Joe Buchanan, who loved and helped Eli become this extraordinary dog he is today. I'm sure Eli will be missed but you know where I live queen, and you're ALWAYS , ALWAYS, ALWAYS welcome to visit your babe anytime!
Also, I cannot forget the sweetest gal ever: Janet York, who has always believed in Eli and trusted me with her boy! You can be sure he's happy down here, and honestly, I have never seen a dog adapt to a house hold this fast. One of my friends came over the other day and said: "it looks like he's lived here his whole live"

Today I took my boys to Lake Eola, Downtown Orlando for this event called “Paws In The Park”. It’s an annual event hosted by our ASPCA. As I expected there were not many Chinese Cresteds, just us and a lady who volunteers at the Hope and Haven rescue here in Florida. However we DID meet a very ‘important’ crested: his name is ‘Hairy’, but you would probably know him as ‘Krull’ from the movie ‘How to loose a guy in 10 days’. Harry and his trainer were there with some other dogs/breeds that were also used in movies. They all had their picture spot and were surrounded by many people and dogs (stardom!). In this picture, Hairy is posing on my knees, next to Leo and Zen, who doesn’t seem star-stroken at all! He’s probably waiting for HIS turn to shine!
