Pancotto - part I

The literal translation would be: “Cooked bread”, even though the bread does not actually get cooked at all, just barely warmed.
As I was preparing this tonight, I thought that if I were “forced” to define my preferred style of cooking (that’s a funny thought - someone forcing you to define your style of cooking), this dish, the squash soup from my previous post, and “pane e pomodoro” would be it. “It” being food that is simple, with few ingredients and quickly prepared. So I looked up simple on thesaurus.com, and out of the pages, and pages, and pages of synonyms they give for the different meanings of “simple”, the ones that convey what I mean by “simple” in this case are the following: elementary, folksy, homey, humble, inelaborate, not complex, plain, rustic, unadorned, unblended, uncomplicated, unelaborate, vanilla. VANILLA? Somehow “vanilla” got in there with vapid, blah, bland, white bread and so forth. I don’t find vanilla to be any of those. It seems to me that vanilla is a complex, exotic, warm scent or flavor.
This is getting complicated. Isn’t anything ever simple? We’ll have to discuss pancotto tomorrow.

In italiano
261D4C4F-5DDF-4DDD-86BA-6C27AC2FAA4F.html89167DB3-064E-44F4-A7C5-5F3F51FF62BC.htmlhttp://thesaurus.reference.comshapeimage_2_link_0shapeimage_2_link_1shapeimage_2_link_2
