CATHOLIC YOUTH CAMP 2009 COUNSELOR APPLICATION PROCESS
Requirements:
Age: Regular Camp (3rd-8th grades) you must be at least 16 years old.
Elementary Camp (3rd -6th grades) you must be at least 16 years old.
Junior High Camp (7th-9th grades) you must have completed grade 11.
Senior High Camp (10th-12th grades) you must be at least two full years out of high school.
Reference: As a volunteer you must provide two references from a teacher, priest, employer or other person who
knows you well. All reference forms must be mailed directly to St. Thomas More Center.
Background: All volunteers 18 and over must complete a diocesan Volunteer Screening Application to work at Catholic Youth Camp.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have had a diocesan background check this year from your parish or other organization in
the diocese, you will not have to reapply for CYC but please send if you are in doubt because NO counselor can be
assigned to a week without a background check being in process with the Diocese.
Deadline for sending is April 1.
Virtus Training: All counselors must complete this training. It will be offered during orientation.
Maximum: Counselors may work up to three (3) weeks of camp.
Orientation: All Counselors must be at camp on the Saturday before their camp week by 11:00 a.m. This is a required orientation--it is essential to be on time.
Training/Retreat Day: All NEW Counselors must attend the Counselor Retreat Day--April 26, 2009 from 1:00
p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Contact the St. Thomas More Center at 515-309-1936 immediately if you are unable to attend.
Available Weeks: On your Counselor Application you will see a separate section, which indicates available Weeks. We would ask you to indicate in this area all weeks for which you would be available. This is separate from your indication of 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices. This information will be used in the event that we cannot place you in one of your first three choices.
Confirmations will be sent out by April 15th (for the applications we have received by April 1.)
Remember to let us know if you can counsel on short notice in case we have a cancellation and mark your available weeks.
