The Schools of Ambition programme is a radical step change in the approach to transforming educational outcomes.

It aims to raise the ambitions of schools, instil belief and ambition in pupils, extend their opportunities and transform their life chances.  The pace of this change is unprecedented.

On Thursday 11th December, the Minister for School and Skills, Maureen Watt MSP, visited Gracemount High School. Her visit coincided with the Scottish Government publication of school attendance figures.  Gracemount High School had been identified as a school with significant improvements in attendance.

The minister was suitably impressed by the pupils of the school and their contribution to the Curriculum for

Excellence and the progress the school had made with its Schools of Ambition programme.

There was also positive feedback given by other members of the Scottish Government and there was

widespread media coverage of the event from the BBC and ITV.  The two reports can be viewed above.  Video courtesy of ITV and BBC Scotland.

What is the Schools of Ambition Programme?

Schools of Ambition are ambitious, excellent schools working as a community to drive Scotland’s education forward to prepare our young people for life beyond school.  They will be at the cutting edge in their thinking and to be passionately ambitious for their pupils and the local communities they serve.

Schools of Ambition will provide examples of leadership, of ambition and opportunity for young people.  They will exemplify what is possible in modern society, helping shape the ambitions of an ever more successful Scotland of the 21st century.

Schools of Ambition receive a commitment to provide resources and support that will help them transform the experience of their pupils.  This will help them to ensure delivery on a commitment, ensuring that Scotland’s young people are guaranteed the best possible education and that our system remains the envy of the world.

The transformational plan is the key document for our School of Ambition project as it details what we wish to achieve and how we will get there.
