Gracemount High School
Committed to Care and Excellence
At Gracemount High School we are very proud to have a curricular and cultural link with Ogwini High School in South Africa. The school is in Umlazi, a township close to Durban. In February 2009, following the success of the second trip in 2008, another small group from Gracemount went on a return visit to Ogwini.
Whilst the group were out there, they were ambassadors for Gracemount and Scotland, teaching pupils of Ogwini about Scotland and its culture and sharing experiences of life in Umlazi and South Africa.
Our partnership with the school continues to strengthen. In February 2009, Zwa Shabangu, a Social Subjects teacher from Ogwini High School visited Gracemount for two weeks in order to get a feel for Scottish education and culture.
Also, in May 2009, Mr Wyllie, Head of Social Subjects spent some time in Ogwini getting to know the staff and pupils.
Recently, Ogwini have started their own school newsletter. New editions of their newsletters will be posted onto this website as we receive them.
Their first newsletter includes articles on the Gracemount trip to Ogwini and Zwa’s trip to Gracemount in February 2009. This can be downloaded below.
