Cathead calls this song his “anthem”, but says he hasn’t really performed it much in public.
We were glad he did on this night.

Sweet Appalachia
Written by Alan “Cathead” Johnston
Performed by Cathead and Charlie Davis
Cathead ended the night with a song written by his “all time favorite singer”, Waylon Jennings.
The dancers are Brad Blue of the Minneapolis GEMS/GISE program and Grace Corrigan, mother of Christa McAuliffe, teacher in space and victim of the Challenger tragedy in 1986.
Cathead and Charlie kicked off the evening with “The River Ran Black”, which is about growing up in McDowell County.
This song also is at the beginning of my movie. It’s one of my favorite Cathead songs.
