holiday prep?!?

oh yes. this is when it all begins. you can always tell by the aroma in the store. a few weeks ago we made our first batch of autumn soaps. spicy aromas of pumpkin, cranberry and apple cider. tell tale signs that the elves are in the workshop and the mid-winter holidays are not far away. have no fear though, the gingerbread men and window dressing will not appear until after the turkey has been devoured.

my level of enjoyment toward holiday prep increases as the nights grow cooler. i come in early each morning to a chilly kitchen about to be warmed by eight burners, all working tirelessly to produce every flavor we’ve created in the past 10 months. it’s become a tradition to bring back all the monthly specials at christmas. carrot, lilac, gardenia, absinthe, lemon sage, lolita margarita...they all come back for a few weeks between thanksgiving and the new year. it keeps me busy and zen.

autumn is my time of year. as much as i love all four seasons, this one holds the best sense memories for me. those thoughts and feelings have a way of creeping into my work. change is afoot. i’ve made some life changing choices recently. now it’s just a matter of the tide coming in and going back out. cycle of life. turn of the seasons.
i have known people who got everything they wanted and in that moment lost everything that mattered. sometimes destruction must occur before rebirth can begin. whatever.

a few good things to share. at the moment, we are firming up our plans to kick off this year’s holiday season with a hugh event to celebrate the release of the beaujolais nouveau 2008 on november 20th. partnering with our friends at TRIA, the evening begins at 6 pm with a free wine tasting class in our kitchen. the classes run every half hour and will include wine and food. down on the ground floor we’ll be creating some amazing wine-based beauty products as well. not to be outdone, our neighbors will be celebrating the night with some great events too. apothecary will be offering complimentary french cocktails and lill studio will be giving away free wine bags to the first 35 attendees.
reservations are required but the evening is FREE so give us a call or send an email.
