Formal partnerships are formed for Omaha Archdiocese Schools willing to make a minimum 3-5 year commitment to fostering a friendship with a Huehuetenango Diocese School. Opportunities for the exchange of culture and the sharing of faith abound.
Communication between schools is fairly limited, taking place via compact care packages hand-delivered to Guatemala by missionaries traveling on Ixim trips approximately once a year. Correspondence by mail is not always reliable, but possible and reasonably-priced when an envelope is light and small. Packages are extremely expensive to mail and cannot be guaranteed to arrive. Electronic mail is unlikely, due to the unavailability of email in most Guatemala schools. Limited contact may be made using email via the Superintendent of Catholic Schools in Huehuetenango, who meets with all the principals of his diocese once a month.
Financial donations are always accepted, but must be wired to the Huehuetenango Catholic Schools by the organization Ixim Spirit of Solidarity. No money should be sent through the mail! The Diocese of Huehuetenango reserves the right to use donated money in a way it feels is equitable to all the schools of the diocese. Thus, especially generous gifts from an Omaha school may be shared between the partner school and other schools within the diocese.
Omaha schools interested in formal partnerships must complete a form expressing their commitment and providing their information.

The Classroom Missionaries Program
Informal Participation
Any school, whether within the Omaha Archdiocese or not, can participate informally in the Classroom Missionaries Program.
Perhaps you see a lesson plan on our Lessons & Links Page that you’d like to use in a Social Studies or religion class. Go for it!
Maybe your Omaha area high school would like to support an elementary school that is fully participating in the Classroom Missionaries Program by having your students in Spanish classes translate correspondence between the elementary schools. Contact us and we can let you know what schools could use your help.
Maybe you’d like to do a one-time, special outreach fundraiser for a needy school. Huehue schools would be happy to receive your proceeds! Contact us an we will let you know how to make this possible. (Remember, Ixim must wire this money to the Huehuetenango Diocese. Money cannot be mailed.)
