“Who has family living in the United States?”
The Superintendent of the Huehuetenango, Guatemala, Catholic Schools, Carlos del Valle, asks students if they have family members who live in the United States. The majority of the students from the small, remote village of Ixtuacan raise their hands. Indeed, they may be more familiar with the United States than our students are of Guatemala. We can learn much from one another!

The students of the Huehuetenango Catholic Schools are very excited to know that people from the United States are interested in their country, their schools, their lives. Many of them have family members living in the United States; and the stories they hear about how their loved ones are treated in our land are sometimes not pleasant. Still when American missionaries have visited their schools, the students have been nothing but gracious and enthusiastic in sharing their love with us.
