Goals

The goal of the Omaha IXIM Education Committee is to support the Huehuetenango Diocese Education System by working to meet the needs they have expressed to us. Specifically, they have requested the following.

1.Partnerships between US and Guatemala schools

a.Support through prayer for one another

b.Correspondence between schools a minimum of once a year

i.Culture/faith sharing via the exchange of student-made videos, CDs, gifts, etc.

ii.Nurturing of friendship via the exchange of letters and cards


2.Funding to assist with the following needs

a.Textbooks and library books

b.Workshops and inservices for teachers

i.  To update current training

ii.  To expand curriculum to include human rights, computers, English

iii. To be offered near teachers’ home towns and villages

c.Increases in teacher salaries

d.Educational scholarships

i. For needy students

ii. For teachers-in-training

e.Reduction in school deficits

f.Computers

i.  Labs for use by students

ii.  Computers for use as a resource/tool of    teachers

iii. Technical support

iv. Computer training for teachers

g.Teaching resources, classroom supplies and manipulatives

Mission Statement

We nurture the relationship between the Catholic school systems of the Huehuetenango Diocese and Omaha Archdiocese in order to share culture and faith between the students and teachers in schools and catechetics programs and to improve the quality of teaching and learning in both countries.
