Wildhaven is the private home of Alan and Stella and the Australian Wildlife they nurture and release back to the bush.

We began looking after wildlife some 18 years ago when we lived in Warrandyte (Vic).  Although the “patients” were predominantly possums, when some larger animals came into care (two Eastern Grey Kangaroos and a wombat) about twelve years ago, we looked for a property closer to a National Park so the wildlife could be released and monitored.    This soft release simply allows the animals a safe haven when rehabilitated.  It is a place they can return to if they wish, and they often do, while remaining wild and free.

The shelter has developed a close relationship with the wonderful Vets at Healesville Sanctuary & Wildlife Victoria, as well as other shelters around Victoria.  Many animals have been saved by these dedicated and unselfish people.   Our shelter, in turn,  cares for larger animals, as well as the very young orphans.  The larger animals’ injuries are usually caused by cars, fences, dogs or simply being trapped and chased in the ever-expanding suburbs.  Many are treated at Healesville and brought to Wildhaven where we house and treat their injuries.  Some injuries can take up to 3 months to heal - the orphans take 2 years of loving care before the soft release.  We are volunteers and, like all carers of wildlife, it is a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, which none of us would give up for the world.

Please enjoy the attached pictures, where you can now enter our world.

The shelter (like all Victorian Wildlife Shelters) is licensed by the Department of Sustainability and Environment and must abide by a code of conduct.  One of the rules prohibits allowing the public access to the shelter (designed to assist the soft release of the animals back to the wild.)  The shelter is totally funded and maintained by us.

Wildhaven is a property dedicated to caring for the beautiful native wildlife of Australia.  The animals roam  free and are protected  by two people that care so deeply for the Wildlife that they changed their life style and, in return, these beautiful animals changed them for ever.
