One last shot here. I couldn’t officially include this skirt in the square dance post because it originated as a skirt. I found her trolling the fields of Warrenton last spring. She was on a table under a heap of feedsack material. The dealer practically gave her to me.

I just loved the print mainly. I held her up to my waist - no dice. She didn’t even fit Betty. But she was a semi-full skirt so there was enough fabric there to make something else. But as she hung in my studio, I grew more fond of her and you already know I have a thing for red.

So I put her on.
Zipped her up as far as I could.
And marked my desired waistline with chalk.
Then I placed her on the table and measured out from the waistband.
I opened the zipper but pinned it at the blue mark.
The key is to save yourself some trouble and reuse the zipper.
I cut at the marked line - several inches lower than the original waistband.
I serged the edge - now my new waistband.
I hand-tacked at the top of the zipper since I had cut off the top stoppers.
I turned the serged edge and top-stitched.
Wa la! Fun new skirt for my wardrobe.
Enjoy your day!
