Adkins’ Attic
Adkins’ Attic

A girl has got to know where to get a good antique fix even in the off season and for me Adkins’ attic is just the place to do it.
Last Saturday I had the great pleasure to get together with friend and fellow designer, Chris Brown of Urban Prairie. After lunch, I took him to one of my favorite places: Adkins Architectural Antiques & Treasures in downtown Houston.
Adkins’ is located in a creaky old three story house. Each room is full of good old stuff. There are rooms dedicated to hardware, plumbing fixtures, lighting, stained glass, doors, furniture, and then there is the attic which is where they have boxes and boxes and heaps upon heaps of treasures.

I came away with a bundle of ephemera and Chris came away with several of the finds shown above.
Chris has started something that I think is very cool. He is tapping in to his collection of uniques to create vignettes or collections of items with a theme. Last week’s assemblage - White Wedding - is pictured above. And for the rest of us, now is sadly sold. Chris has a great sense of style and this is a great way to start or expand and refresh a collection. What a great opportunity to own something that I would consider art from an influential style-setter.
Look for Chris’ next assemblage this coming Monday, November 5th.
