Our group is focused on the use of target and diversity orientated synthesis in drug development. We are developing methods for the parallel synthesis of small molecules to facilitate their screening for biological activity. We also carry out the total synthesis of biologically important natural products with the goal of synthesizing diverse arrays of derivative of those structures.
In collaboration with biologists in the Houston region, we have been active developing molecules for screening in a variety of biological assays and then doing the follow up medicinal chemistry to turn hits from those screens into leads. Compounds from our laboratories have been assayed for activity against hepatitis C, West Nile virus, yersinia pestis, anthrax edema factor and BRCT domains of BRCA1.
