BBC journalists in Hull
scoop top TV award
The BBC Look North team based in Hull has scooped a top television award.
The team beat off stiff competition to win the Nations and Regions News Coverage Award in this year's prestigious Royal Television Society Awards held in London and hosted by Mary Nightingale.
The BBC's Head of Region for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, Helen Thomas, was delighted with the win.
She said: "Jo Makel, Linsey Smith and Joe Bilton worked hard to tell the story of the Joanne Nelson murder case delivering some original and exclusive journalism.
"I know the final programme was a team effort and my congratulations go to the full team for their first major television win."
The RTS Television Journalism Awards were founded in 1978.
The jury described this year's entry by BBC Look North Yorkshire and Lincolnshire as: "... an involving and detailed look at the background to a callous murder."
The jury said the combination of both pace and detail made the piece "riveting" to watch.
The BBC's Controller of English Regions, Andy Griffee, also offered his congratulations to the Look North team.
He said: "For such a relatively young programme to storm the national RTS ramparts is a real achievement and just reward for all their professionalism and hard work."
