Many years ago I received some book tokens for Christmas. It was a rather dull & unimaginative gift, and I shoved them to the back of my wallet never to be looked at again. Some months later, when walking around the many second hand book shops in Lichfield, the cover of one book called out to me. Among the dusty shelves, and rickety floor boards, someone had previously looked at the book and left it lying face-up on the table where the sun-kissed beauty adorned in giant poppies reclined looking up at me from the cover. The personification of Summer caught my eye, and from then on I was entranced by Alphonse Mucha’s beautiful Art Nouveau style.
Many artists have been influenced by his style of work. The distinctive bold outer lines combined with the refined inner detail on his figures, and all topped off with the most decorative ornate borders and swirls. It became the signature of the Art Nouveau movement and carved a new face for Paris in the 1890’s.
Over time I intend to share more of his works in order to help spread the love for his art, and in order to increase awareness of more than just his Art Nouveau style. This is just a humble & growing gallery dedicated to my favourite artist of all time. Hopefully you’ll love it just as much as I do...
