This is my favorite white wine of the moment.
See the description below that I found on the web - I couldn't agree more!
And, for $6.49 a bottle it is a steal. Grab up more than one bottle if you find it.
Serve it COLD.
A favorite white wine for picnics. Light citrus fruit character, dry beach sand-like minerality, and refreshing spritzy effervescence. At just 9% alcohol you wont fall asleep in the sun afterward.
I have never had a Vinho Verde before so I did not know what to expect.
This sort of wine is from Portugal and Vinho Verde means "green wine." The grapes are taken that are growing up poles or trees and also on fences. The two varietal of grapes used are the Loureiro and the Alvarinho.
This one is meant for the hot summer days for quenching your thirst. The color is very clear, with a goldish green hue.
One thing I found alarming at first is that it is a bit fizzy, but after a sip that was not a problem. The nose has some melon, flower and citrus. The taste is crisp with citrus, apple and slight berry tastes that linger and end in a zingy cider finish.
Overall, this would be a great picnic wine and complimented our meal well.
This is definately a keeper as this wine is nice and light with a memorable flavor.
