The Confidante: Soliloquy Webcast Project

Today, March 29, 2008 we begin the Psyber Shakespeare initiative with our first endeavor. “The Confidante” Soliloquy Webcast Project.

The idea is simple: The convention of the soliloquy is direct audience address. The audience becomes as a character to whom the on stage characters confide.  Many Shakespeare practitioners refer to this mass identity as “the confidante.”

In today’s cyber hungry existence, so many confide in the world at large through myspace, face-book and blog sites. What if Shakespearean characters did the same? What if they delivered soliloquies through online journals on camera, as if to the confidante? Would the shakespearean convention of the soliloquy hold up? Would the convention of soliloquy become more immediate to a citizenry reliant on text messages and e-mail to connect? Would we be able to reach more people with these speeches than those who would otherwise “get it” ?

We’re now accepting letters of interest if you’d like to participate!
