One with God - His will into my will
This is an re-worked oil painting I did perhaps 30 years ago just out of art school. I painted this art from a black and white photo of Mikhail Baryshnikov I saw in a magazine. His leap and pose seemed spiritual to me like he was being drawn upward by the powerful unseen hand of God. I’ve titled this art One with God. It speaks to me of the act of spiritual surrender, the letting go of the small ego, and accepting God completely without reservation. “His will into my will.” are the words on this art, reminiscent of St. Francis of Assisi’s, “Thy will be done.”
Of course, the reasonable person asks, “How does one know what God’s will is?” To me, God’s will is something intangible, grace with supreme intelligence, beauty with inspired wisdom; but most of all, a profound love and compassion for all life. Perhaps God’s will is found in still moments where there is deep love and peace, a sense of rightness about life. When we are in that state, we tend to do inspired things with love for the greater good. When love for God comes easily, I’d guess that it is then that we are acting in God’s will.
