Once Upon a Dream
About the Art In Once Upon a Dream a woman discovers in a dream the confidence she needs in her outer life. She is walking with grace and peace supported by a gentle spirit- wind far above the earth. Instead of giving into fear, she walks forward with confidence, her attention on an inner sense of God’s presence guiding and supporting her. The ground she is walking on is magically appearing before her with each step, and fading away behind her as she moves forward. In this “zone of love and trust” she discovers that she is capable of making her dreams come true.
The optional phase on this art is:
“I give my life to God to guide each step I take on the heavenly path He is designing for me.”
– Michael Kramer 2007
I use the present tense, “...path He is designing for me” because I believe that God is actively present within our lives if we give Him space to be felt and understood. We receive daily guidance if we have the discipline to quite the chatter of the mind and still our hearts, and create a space within us where we are able to sense his intelligent, all-loving spirit. Our own divine path is unfolding at our feet as we take brave steps forward with trust and faith.

Now’s here’s the trick in flying dreams that I’ve discovered. Be brave. When you’re high above the earth, keep your head up, suspend any sense of fear, and just move forward looking ahead with confidence and your attention on something greater and stronger than yourself.
How do I affect my thoughts in a dream? I think about it while I’m awake. I tell myself what to do next time I’m in this dream, then that instruction is transmitted into my next dream, just as my everyday fears of failing/falling were transmitted into prior dreams. In other words, our fears and loves are transmitted into the dream state, but so can spiritual experiences and new insights in the dream state be transmitted to our waking awareness.
I believe our daily lives are much like this dream. We meet the challenges of each day best when we have hope and are following a dream. When we are in the “zone of love and trust” we are connected to God and all of life. Life/God seems to magically bring us what we need in an amazing sets of coincidences. I heard that there is a Jewish saying that, “Coincidences are God winking at you.” I myself believe that behind a “coincidence” lies a string of exacting cause and effect of spirit and mind working in harmony.
The path we take then seems to magically appear with each confident decision me make to step forward. Of course we’d all love to know exactly where our path is leading to, but that’s still open to the decisions we still making.
Creating the Art In September of 2006 I invited my wonderful friend, Silana, to do an sunset photo session in La Jolla on a 800’ cliff overlooking the ocean. She loved the idea of creating spiritually uplifting art and was open to my vision. A few days before the shoot I had the idea to purchase 20 yards of sheer material. This turned out to be divine inspiration. The wind-blown, translucent fabric really captured the feeling of currents of spirit flowing around and through her. In all my art and even my commercial projects, I try to illustrate the divine in each of us. I hint at what it might be like in the beautiful realms we’ll live in when we leave this body behind and where we might travel in our spiritual dreams, prayers and meditations.
I create art by starting with photos, then combining them in different ways to create a window into a divine world. My background is in fine art, painting, photography and graphic design, so I bring all these sensibilities to bare in creating art. In Songs of Spirit - Sunset, I envision a sacred being overlooking the edge of a spiritual world, who is experiencing God’s love with such force that a spiritual wind blows through and around her.
