You will create a map of an imaginary area. The imaginary area must be placed on the real earth however,  like an uncharted place never discovered before. The position should be somewhere in the Pacific, Atlantic or Indian Oceans

Purpose: To increase students’ understanding about how maps are made, map projections, and map reading. To supplement students’ understanding of basic concepts of Geography

Students will be given white construction paper (12"x 20") for their maps. Art materials will be provided by the teacher, but you may use your own if you wish.

All plans for individual countries must contain the requirements listed below:
Political System
Type of System
Explain how the country is run. Is it: autocratic, democratic, despotic, colonial, communistic, monarchy, socialist, totalitarian, republican, theocratical, oligarchical, dictatorial, a welfare state, or a police state?
Leadership
Describe rulers, judicial systems, and legislatures. Is/Are there (a/an): czar, emperor, governor, queen, king, princess, prince, premier, president, prime minister, viceroy, or other ruler; congress, parliament, representatives, senators, lords, or other lawmaking bodies?        
Culture
List language(s) spoken, main historic events, interesting customs
Economy
Type: capitalism, socialism, fascism, communism - What are the country’s Natural resources (examples: water; geological resources such as aluminum, iron, zinc, coal, oil, natural gas; biological resources such as forests or fish)
Manufacturing
Products they make and for which the country is famous
Exports (goods sold and sent to other countries)
Imports (goods purchased and brought in from other countries)
Symbols
Describe the country’s National symbol, animal, flower, tree, national anthem, colors, flags, legends

Story Instructions
Each student must create an interesting, entertaining story that describes an interesting incident involving their C.Y.O.M. country. Stories must be written according to literary principles. Complete the story graphic organizer and character wheels as you write your first draft. Stories must contain at least 350-400+ words. Final drafts of stories may be written on a computer with a word processor or written in ink.
