Thursday the 5th, my daughter and I celebrated our birthdays which are both on the same day. On Friday, we held the opening reception of my art exhibit at Keller City Hall which was a fabulous success. Saturday was my daughter’s High School graduation. and then on Monday I took here to the Camp where she is working as a counselor all summer. Yesterday, was my day to recover from all the excitement and now I plan to get back to work on some new things.

It was really exciting to see my work hung all over City Hall. There is a total of 64 pieces that consist of art quilts and some of my mixed media artwork. Here is a photo of my dear friend Phyliss
examining one of my quilts at the opening.

Here are some more photos from the opening reception:

Here’s a picture of the my son - Brian and my daughter Michelle and me enjoying the opening reception

Here I am showing off my latest landscape jacket that I recently finished. I wanted to wear it that night but it was 95 degrees outside that day, and I would have roasted in it.

Below is a picture of my wonderfully talented friend
Flo Barry, who I can’t thank enough for helping me curate and organize the show.

It was a really fun night. The exhibit will be up through June 31 at Keller City Hall which is located at 1100 Bear Creek Blvd. Keller, TX 76248 and is open from 8am - 5 pm Monday-Fridays. If you are in the area stop by to see the show this month.

Well the good news is today is tax day and I have already been to the post office, so I got that out of the way. Well, I have to admit that I have been terrible about keeping this blog updated. Writing is not my favorite thing to do. I’d rather be quilting or painting, but I have made a commitment to keep this blog updated, so you can be looking for many more update in the future.

Well, lots has happened since my last post, so this may be a fairly long post. Last month was the Dallas Quilt Show, which was a tremendous success for me. Sales of my 3-6-9 Design System were strong and lots of my former customers came by to tell me what they have made using their systems. I also introduced my new Instructions DVD series on the Sew Inspired Design System.

Another new product that I introduce at the show was the 6 inch versions of my templates. I now have the new 2-4-6 Design System which features all the same templates as the 3-6-9 System in the smaller 6 inch format.
Mixing and matching the 6 inch block with 9 inch blocks can give you some really cool designs. Here is a photo of all my new templates:

This is the first quilt that I did using the new 6” Winding Curves template:

I entered this quilt and a number of others in the show. The good news is that I won a 1st place ribbon for my quilt called The Journey which was also made using my Winding Curves templates. Here is a picture of me in front of the quilt after I found out that I won in the Large Piece Quilts Category.

As you can see from the picture, I was very happy about winning that ribbon!

Well, there’s lots of other news that I’ll be adding in the next few days so make sure you check back soon.

Bye for now

Sara

It was a wonderful show! The quilts there were magnificent and so were all the people that I met. My cousin Leslie helped me in my booth and we had a blast. She is still mad at me for leaving California and moving to Texas.

I taught a wonderful group of ladies on Saturday night all about my 3-6-9 Design System and how to make a Spinning Pinwheel quilt using my Pinless Easy Curved Piecing Method which is described in my new book “Spinning Pinwheel Quilts”. Almost everyone in the class finished their blocks on the fabulous Aurora 440 QE sewing machines that Bernina provided for us in the classroom. Thanks to Bernina for all their support!

I was so busy working in my booth and teaching that I never got a chance to take any pictures at the show, so I thought I’d put up a picture here from California not taken at the show. In case your wondering, that is not me on the surfboard.

The next class I will be teaching is a needle felting class on Feb. 2, 2008 at the New Horizon in Fiber 2008 Conference which is being put on by the Texas Federation of Fiber Artist in Plano , TX. Anyone interested in the conference or any of the workshops can get more information on the DAFA website: http://www.dallasfiberartists.org/StateConference.html .

Well the countdown is on! There are only 18 more days before the Houston Quilt Market begins. I have been feverishly working on getting everything done. I’m working on some new template products, quilts in my new fabric line from Blank Quilting called Galaxy and my new instructional DVD’s.

I had a blast this weekend working on a new quilt that I am doing with my Winding Curve templates using my Galaxy fabric. I completed the quilt top on my new Bernina Artista 730 and had so much fun quilting it using the Bernina BSR.

I have to admit that the first few times that I tried to use the BSR foot, I had some trouble getting use to it. It’s different than what I was use to and anytime you try something new, it can take some getting use to. However, after finishing the quilt that I just did this weekend, I don’t think I’d ever want to quilt with out it. Here is a photo of me quilting this fun new quilt. I’m hooked on that BSR!!!! I just want to drop everything that I need to do and just sit in my studio and quilt on my Bernina. Unfortunately, I have too many of “the not so fun stuff” to do before I leave town. I’m hoping to get one or two more quilts quilted before I leave. If that happens it will mean a few more late nights alone in my studio with my new best friend, my Bernina Artista 730.

Hope to see many of you in Houston either at Festival or Quilt Market. My booth number at Festival is #1557 and at Quilt Market it is #2225
