Amston Lake Connecticut

This film clip shows the filamentous algae problem in May, 2007 in the southwest cove. Algae such as this has appeared in increasing amounts around the lake, especially near the intersection of Deepwood Drive at Bass Lake Road.

In early June, 2007, a number of bales of barley straw were placed in the lake near Bass Lake Road. The results were simply outstanding -  NO algae in the areas applied.

Barley straw applied later in the summer in the northeast cove area was not successful.

In 2008, the barley straw will be applied in smaller amounts and put into onion bags that will be sunk to the bottom along the shore.
