Historical TIPS

Understanding Japanese society requires a sufficient knowledge in Japanese history. For those who are doing mission to Japan, I suggest them to at least study the basics of Japanese history, specially the Tokugawa or Edo Period (1603 - 1868), The Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) till the Post World War II period in Japan. This will enable the missionaries to build a strong foundation for their Christian mission in Japan. In my book Understanding Japan through the Eyes of Christian Faith (2008), I have given a soci-cultural description of these periods. Also special information on Christian martyrs in Japan and systematic persecution are mentioned in my book.
