Thousands gather across the country to honor
the memory of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivkah
December 12th
The main mission of Rabbi Gavriel and his wife Rivkah, brutally murdered in Mumbai, India, was to impact every Jew. Jews who have never lit Sabbath candles before, lit them because of Gavriel and Rivkah. Jews who had never had a Sabbath meal, had one because of Gavriel and Rivkah. There is no better way to honor the memory of these two young warriors than to take part in a special Shabbaton (Sabbath Dinner), Friday evening, December 12th.
For the first time in history every Chabad Synagogue is hosting a special and unique Sabbath; a Sabbath that remembers and honors our brother and sister who died on the front lines of Judaism. Every Jew in the country as well as in the state of Florida is encouraged to take part in this monumental effort to remember and honor the lives of Gavriel and Rivkah.
The whole world has been touched and moved by the story of these young people who dedicated their lives to simple acts of kindness. In their final moments, their two year old son Moshe was rescued and miraculously survived the terrorist attack. As a sign of solidarity for Jewish people that evil does not triumph we are exponentially growing in the numbers of Jewish people who celebrate a Sabbath meal.
The presence of every Jewish person who gathers for Mumbai Shabbat unifies and strengthens our people, and draws peace into the world during this tumultuous time. When we ask what can we do, and we gather together and sanctify the holy Shabbat, we achieve more than we can imagine, or comprehend. Every Jew in the country is encouraged to take part in this special event.
