Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project
The Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project organized in 1999 to help the arts flourish in southern Aroostook County, Maine. Our "Cultural Arts" project connects artists with each other and community members to celebrate creativity and the many art forms that sprout from the culture of our lives in northern Maine. We promote local fine art, folk art, traditional art, historic art, performing art, and contemporary craft!
In 2001 we published the Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Directory listing local artists, artisans, cultural organizations, and annual events. During 2002-2004, we produced events to showcase our local artists, encourage mingling between artists and audiences, have some fun, and raise funds to continue our work.
In 2004 we opened the retail shop Visions and the Blue Moon Gallery to celebrate art and increase the visibility of southern Aroostook arts & culture to the world. Our vision is of a vibrant, joyful, and friendly community, where the arts are the spice of community life and leavening for the revitalization of the economy.
