OPEN POSITIONS


Financial Books Auditor: Reviewing books is a routine requirement of PTAs. Please come help review the books and check balances. Audits happen twice a year. It’s not a formal audit but more of a review.


WinterFaire Chair Trainees: Now is the best time to get trained on how to coordinate the WinterFaire to run it next year.


Landscape Co-Coordinator: The Landscape committee ensures that the landscape plan continues to move forward through meetings with district and school personnel. This committee is also responsible for campus clean up days. We need at least one other person to help Shelby lead this group.


End-of-Year Barbecue Coordinator: Coordinate the PTA barbecue for the school. This is a well-attended, community fun event! Responsibilities include: placing a (pre-determined) Costco food order to be delivered to campus (using PTA funds). Hire a band (we have suggestions if desired). Request volunteers (Volunteer Coordinator can help you) for set up, grill and clean up. Post signs throughout school for potluck and put notice in newsletter. Attend event and help guide volunteers with their jobs.


Community Classroom Volunteer Coordinator: Find volunteers from the community to assist teachers in the classroom.


Safe Routes to School Helpers:

Help with our Safe Routes to School programs. We need 3 more volunteers to take turns managing the Wednesday Safe Routes table. The job entails being at school by 8:00 a.m. about 3 to 4 times throughout the year. The table is a greeting place for those who walk, bike or carpool to school, and helps encourage those who don't to problem-solve ways they might. Snacks are available for volunteers to use for the table, or they may bring their own morning goodies. Volunteers are also involved in the end of the year 'pollution punchcard' contest.


“Buddy” Club: Start a new tradition at Manor for incoming kindergarten families by pairing them up with a more “seasoned” family. Objective is to make their transition into the school easier, answer any questions they might have, etc. That’s the concept but you make it into what you want. We’ll help you get started if you’re new to Manor as well.


Traffic Solution Committee: There is a lot of congestion during drop off at school. If you drop your children off, you know! I’ve heard several thoughts on how to remedy but we need people to form a committee to come up with a solid proposal. Share the proposal with the the principal and once you have the “go ahead”, then execute it.


YES Open Positions - Manor Campus


Wine Lot Auction: Only requires about three hours of time and is done March-April. Be the school liaison for announcing (putting up posters), collecting (from the front office) and delivering wine donations from Manor (to a specified person at YES).


“Friends of YES” (FOY) Campus Liaisons: MAP Representative: OPEN

“Friends of YES” are parent classroom representatives that put a familiar “face” to some of the YES handouts that are distributed throughout the year.



TAKEN POSITIONS


Back-to-School Barbecue Coordinator: Anne Capron and Tanya Nordstrom

Birthday Books Coordinator:  Mia Laurence

Families have the option to donate a book for the school library in celebration of their child’s birthday. The duties of this position is to coordinate those efforts with the librarian and families and send out letters. Donations go straight to the library. Lori has agreed to continue this position for 2008/09 but is happy to pass the duties over to anyone else interested in this position.


Box Top Coordinator: Lamorna Brown-Swigart

This person will collect the Box Tops and submit to General Mills (twice a year in October and February) for payment to Manor School PTA. Monies earned go to YES.


Emergency Preparedness Coordinator: Sam Silverstein, Sheryl Fantom, Cherie Klein

Check bags (one in each classroom) to ensure materials have not expired. Done once a year. Also attend approximately six district meetings.


Field Trip Financial Assistant: Korri Grigsby & Tanya Nordstrom

Gather checks and forms that the teachers received from parents at the beginning of the school year. Keep tracking sheets of what is received and how much and what is outstanding. Ensure that all checks and scholarships are received from every parent by working through the teachers. Provide tracking sheets and checks to Financial Secretary for deposit and scholarship forms to YES.


  Financial Assistant: Korri Grigsby & Alison Mankin

Accounting background not necessary but QuickBooks experience a plus. Requires processing check requests, data entry, reports, and be available weekly to make bank deposits with another PTA executive member.


Grant Writer: Patrice Phillips

There are loads of grants available to schools but teachers are usually too busy and may lack the experience to find the grants and write them. What a great value to our school this position would be!


People to take this position would:

  1. 1.Seek out grants (we know websites and resources where you can find grants) and report to PTA Board on any findings. PTA board/Principal will find out if there is teacher interest. If so, then work with interested teachers to write the grant and submit.

  2. 2.Serve as a point-of-contact for teachers and parents to contact you with grant suggestions or request that you locate a needed grant.

  3. 3.Work with other grant writers in our school district. There is a district-wide agreement that any grants one school does should be offered up to the others schools in case they would like to be a part of it. You may then be writing a grant for multiple schools or helping on a grant led by another school.


How much time will this take? It’s up to you. Last year we wrote one grant. Take on as much or as little as you can.


You don’t have to have experience with grant writing. If you have the desire, PTA will pay for a class so you can learn if you’re interested. There are also books on the subject at the Fairfax Library.


K/1 Get Moving Event Coordinator: Eileen McCarthy

We held the first Get Moving! event in 2008 for all the kindergardeners and 1st graders. The program is all set up (although always open for changes if you prefer). Work with teacher Kim Travaglini-Lawrence early in the school year of 2009 to put on this event. Lots of fun for the kids and parents and a great way to support the message that exercise is an important part of their education.


Historian: Glynns Thomas

The Historian keeps track of how many volunteer hours occur at Manor School (a rough count is OK) and fills out a form at the end of the school year to be sent to the District PTA (Marin County). Form includes a paragraph or two about our best programs. Also documents the year through pictures and creates an album to be saved for historical purposes.


Hospitality Coordinator: Cathy Solario

This position coordinates refreshments for the quarterly PTA meetings and any miscellaneous meeting refreshment needs throughout the school year. This includes the first day of school welcome breakfast (coffee/muffins/fruit). You are not required to cook or make anything. PTA will fund and you may purchase for reimbursement or seek out volunteers to bake.


K-5 Room Parent Coordinator: Linda Sibbett

This position serves as a resource for room parents who need help in their roles. This includes maintaining a binder of information that is distributed to all room parents at the beginning of the year. This person is also is the conduit for passing information to parents as needed. (For instance a volunteer request would be sent to the Room Parent Coordinator who then emails to all room parents who then email to all parents). Click here to learn more.


Landscape Committee: S. Lamotte

Oversee the long-term plan for improving school grounds. Coordinate two campus clean up days to weed and prune.


Lap-a-thon Coordinator: Shelley Hamilton and helpers: Davy Jay/Theresa Hall/Suzanna Nash/Laurie Trombla

Coordinate the annual lap-a-thon that’s held mid-May. Solicit volunteers (Volunteer Coordinator will help you) to help out on the day of the event. Send out sign up sheets to the families through the teachers and collect and tally up. Monies raised go PTA if the WinterFaire did not raise to the $85 per child limit. All additional funds raised go to YES.


Legislation Liaison: Angela Barker

The legislative liaison learns about and communicates current issues related to education. Keep Manor parents informed about issues and provide resources for parents to communicate with their legislative representative. You might be surprised how many different issues there are currently at the local, state and national level. Take on as little or much as you want. Click here for ideas and click here. One piece of legislation can have far more impact on children than any fundraiser.


Lice Check Coordinator: Denise Olson

This position requires at the start of school to meet with the Nurse to determine frequency and timeframe of school-wide lice checks. Check with Sheryl that kits are complete with supplies and class lists (do this for her if not already complete). Contact Volunteer Coordinator to obtain room parent lists and their emails. Two to three weeks ahead of check, put notice in newsletter of the “how-to” training availability and contact room parents  as to what/when. Send out another reminder one week ahead. Double check on the lice check day that all classes checks are complete. Pat yourself on the back for having completed this enviable duty!


Lost & Found Coordinator: Sheryl Fantom

This position manages the Lost and Found wardrobe to ensure that it does not overflow, notifies when it will be sorted through and donated throughout the year.


MAP Room Coordinator: Marissa Cooper


Newsletter: Peter Funk

Set up each week’s newsletter and provide to the principal to complete and send out.


Membership Drive Coordinator: Sara Tewksbury

Encourage parents, grandparents, faculty and friends to become members of PTA. Drive occurs within the first few months of school and then your job is done! Could be a combination of several efforts such as newsletter notices, distributing sign up sheets via the teachers, mailings to families, etc. There’s lots of ideas already for you to run with or come up with some of your own. Membership Tracking Coordinator: Glynns Thomas

Time requirement is for about the first four months of school year. Excel spreadsheet skills required.

Soon after school starts, about once a week go to the front office and collect the PTA membership forms and checks. Record check information on membership forms and then put checks in the PTA safe in the front office. Then take the membership forms home and record membership information in a spreadsheet (prior year’s spreadsheet provided). Provide PTA President with an updated excel report each month.


Parent Education Coordinator: Nell Branco

About four educational classes for parents are offered throughout the Ross Valley School District and one is held at each school. This person would work with other parents in the district to identify what classes would be held at each of the schools. You would then promote all the events and coordinate the ONE event held at Manor. You will have a budget for any expenses such as a speaker. Parliamentarian: Rachel DeMicco

The Parliamentarian assists the President at the 4 general PTA meetings to give advice on parliamentary procedures (like the proper words to use to conduct a vote). We follow Robert’s Rules of Order. If you have knowledge about this or are willing to learn (we can get you the abbreviated book) please help!


Picture Day Coordinator: Tanya Nordstrom and Martyne Viens

Picture day tends to be in early October each year. We need a few volunteers to let each class know the photo people are ready for them, to help comb the childrens’ hair and general tidiness. The coordinator requests volunteers as the event nears through the Volunteer Coordinator, gives instruction to the volunteers and helps out as well.


PTA Website Coordinator: G. Thomas

Maintain the PTA website.


Reflections: Velvy Appleton

Reflections is a national PTA recognition and achievement program that believes art should be part of a child’s well-rounded education. It is a competition with multiple categories such a dance choreography, photography, music composition, documentary films, painting, etc. What I’ve seen produced out of this program is outstanding. But hey, our kids are pretty outstanding too! It’s a great honor to receive one of the Reflection awards. The Reflections Co-Coordinator will work with Velvy Appleton--who spearheaded our first Reflections program last year. Submit artwork to the Reflections program and report back on who the winners are! State winners get to attend the annual convention and receive standing ovations from thousands of PTA admirers! Safe Routes Coordinator: Stephanie Clark and Carolyn Gencarella

Help facilitate safer routes to school for those who bike or walk...which is a lot of us! Also encourage families to bike and walk more to school and provide education on the importance of it.


In prior years this included, three new crosswalks installed (two on Sir Francis Drake and one on Oak Manor), the bike/pedestrian bridge near SFD Blvd., a bike safety rodeo on campus, a punchcard program to encourage more walking/biking to win great prizes and weekly morning snacks for bikers/walkers.


Coordinate weekly helpers for the morning snacks and punchcard program.


School Newsletter Coordinator: Peter Funk

You do not have to be on campus for this position. Work with the principal to create a weekly newsletter.


Staff Appreciation Coordinator: Tanya Nordstrom & Erin Lynch

Using PTA funds, provide monthly treats for the school staff via breakfast, lunch or snacks. Also coordinate the annual Teacher Appreciation luncheon in May.


“Sunshine” Club: Anca Sira/Karin Gornick

From time to time there are Manor families in need and unfortunate situations can hit families without warning. PTA cares about all our families and our children. Please develop a program that can identify families in need and organize ways for them to receive donations and help.


Talent Show Coordinator: Maya Butterfield, Mia Laurence, Vicki Bornstein

Work with the school to set the schedule for the performance and rehearsals, publicize the show, run rehearsals and practices, find people to do lights, potluck and program...and run the show! Co-chair needed to learn the “ropes” from Maya and possibly take on the following year.


T-Shirt/Sweatshirt Coordinator: Sheryl Fanton

Using a printing shop, produce t-shirts or sweatshirts for Manor families. At the beginning of the year (ideally on the first day of school at the Welcome Breakfast), contact the print shop, collect orders, place the order with the print shop, collect money and deliver the items to classrooms. Done once a year but spreads Manor spirit year round!


Volunteer Coordinator: Danielle Fogel

Fill all volunteer positions (mostly occurs at Back-to-School events) and provide job description information and guidance to volunteers.


Wellness Committee: Emily Bender, Mandy Thomasson, Sheryl Fantom, Cherie Klein

Attend district meetings to represent Manor parents in regards to topics that pertain to the wellness of our students and staff. Topics include, but are not limited to, school lunch program and indoor air quality.


WinterFaire Co-Chairs:  Tayu Neogy and Amy Saavedra

Coordinate the efforts of all the volunteer help to produce the WinterFaire. This is THE fundraiser for our school. The first $85 per child that is raised goes to PTA (per the Ross Valley School District Roundtable agreement) and remaining monies raised go to YES. Click here for more information.


WinterFaire Silent Auction Chair: Tanya Nordstrom, Jalynne Allen and Anne Capron

Be the HERO for Manor School! The silent auction raises the most money from all the Winterfaire activities.  Grab a couple of friends and divide up the duties.  Last year’s coordinator will show you how and help with everything beforehand. Requires a couple of hours each week before the event to enter donations on your PC. More time will be needed as the event draws near (but its all over before Thanksgiving!).
